Physical activity is an essential part of life given its importance for physical and mental health. In the "era of technology", many individuals suffer from hypokinesis, meaning they do not get enough physical exercise.
Such a passive lifestyle might lead to a multitude of lifestyle diseases (diabetes mellitus type 2, metabolic syndrome, overweight, obesity, cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis, osteoporosis etc.). Unhealthy lifestyle (passivity, overeating, alcohol, cigarettes, and lack of physical exercise) is to some extent responsible for the onset or progression of various mental disorders or illnesses (depression, psychosis, neurodegenerative diseases etc.).
Conversely, healthy and active lifestyle can somewhat slow down the progression of a disease or even prevent its onset.
