Chosen Misconceptions in "Household Physical Chemistry" among Secondary School Pupils and Undergraduates

Abstract

The conference article focuses on the analysis of misconceptions created by students of lower secondary school and upper secondary school and undergraduates of chemistry teaching, that are connected with chosen problems of the chemistry curriculum, which occure in all three levels of Czech education. The authors try to find out whether the wrong and inaccurate ideas of pupils and students of different ages differ only at the quantitative level (older students are expected to make fewer errors) or qualitative as well (that means, whether and how the misconceptions do change in pupils / students with their age).

The test used in the research is based on the use of control of the necessary knowledge. In addition to basic test questions, the respondents also had to answer so-called control questions.

Their aim was to find out whether the respondent had the necessary knowledge to solve the basic test question, or whether he/she only guessed the answer.
