STSM results : relating remotely sensed data of catchments to in-situ data of lake water chemistry

Abstract

The presentation will show results from STSM focused on the acidity of lakes (the High Tatra Mountains, exposed to the acid atmospheric deposition in the past) depending on the terrain morphometry and the land cover of corresponding catchment basins. A multivariate regression analysis was carried out to relate the measurements of lake water chemistry during different episodes of atmospheric acid pollution to the morphometry and land cover of the corresponding catchment basin.

This analysis provided regression coefficients and pointed out the variables actually affecting the lake acidity. Furthermore, Sentinel-2 images acquired over the study area (several km2) were used to estimate the land cover and to relate it to the other morphometric parameters derived from the high-resolution DEM of this area.
