The paper focuses on the Home Literacy Environment (HLE) and its importance for the reading development in children. We summarize the basic findings of international research and compare them with the outputs from the parental questionnaires obtained in the research Reading Comprehension - Typical Development and its Risks.
We will focus on the impact of the family environment on the performance of pupils in reading tests and also on interesting aspects of HLE, for example who reads in the family with children or which children's books are preferred in the family.
