The paper focuses on school education of the hearing impaired in Czechoslovakia following the Second World War. The history of one of Prague schools was researched to show how difficult were the origins and development of institutional education that should accommodate various grades of hearing impairment.
The 70 years of everyday's running of the school as well as nationwide changes following 1945 are best reflected in the school chronicle. The study aims to point out the long-term tradition of Czechoslovak and Czech special education, which can also contribute to improve the practice of teaching students with special education needs in the future.
