Abstract

The term of s.i. has been used mainly in German linguistics; elsewhere the phenomenon is termed as subordinate speech acts or negotiation of illocutionary force. The concept is based on the notion of hierarchy of speech acts in discourse.

A dominating illocution is subsidied/supported by reasoning (a part of speaker's communicative strategy towards the addressee).
