Abstract

In public debates, there is a regular call for Islam to reform itself. They are attempts to rationally transform religion that is perceived as clinging too to tradition, are not only commiting a great simplification, they are also expression of ignorance of the recent intellectual development of the Islamic world.

Rationalism, traditions, cultural heritage and Islamic thought were subjects of one of the leading Arab intellectuals of the thirteenth generation years, Muhammad'Abid al-Djabiri (1936-2010).
