Abstract
Pain is a common symptom of eye disease. The nature, of the pain, possible link to other symptoms and the circumstances of its occurrence can significantly help in diagnosis.
Acute pain generally subsides rapidly with the correct therapeutic procedure and from this reason is special treatment of pain mostly unnecessary. In some cases where intense pain makes eye examination impossible, or if the therapeutic procedure itself is painful, using a short-term surface anesthetic is necessary.
Treating pain in chronic illness, is always difficult and in some cases requires surgery. There are conditions where enucleation for secondary glaucoma may be the most acceptable solution.
