Abstract
The article traces the genesis of Prague School Structuralism with the focus on the terminology and conceptual frames coined within the disciplines of literary theory and aesthetics. It interprets the appropriation of influences and traditions borrowed both from the domestic and international contexts.
It analysis the key terms of function, meaning, value and structure as they surround the key notion of a semiotic sign.
