Text comprehension at pupils of younger school age - oral reading versus listening comprehension

Publication at Faculty of Education |
2018

Abstract

Abroad studies repeatedly confirm that as far as the text comprehension listening is superior to oral reading for pupils of younger school age (eg. Stichte et al., 1974, Diakidoy et al., 2005, etc.).

The research project Reading comprehension - typical developments and its risks from 2013-2015, however, have come to the contrary findings in this respect. Listening comprehension in younger school-age pupils showed to be at a lower level than oral reading comprehension (Kucharska, Špačková, 2016).

The paper introduces a following study (Kubíková, 2018), which main aim was to clarify whether and how the use of newly created test tasks might influence the above mentioned research findings.
