Abstract
The chapter deals with the main subjects and objects of demography, discuss the development of demography as a science and as well as defines the current state of the field. Above all, the currently most important issues of population science are mentioned, interdisciplinarity of the research and a wide possibilities of the application of the traditional demographic methods.
