The essay published in a form of an afterwords to the Czech translation of John Fiske: Understanding Poular Culture traces the context of the theory of popular culture concept coined by Fiske. It traces its inspirations and influences and situates the concept into the era of the 1980s and 1990s.
Then it offers a comparative analysis of the original reception with the context of recent Czech humanities and cultural studies particularly.
