Applying the theory of the standard language in terms of selected actors of language culture

Abstract

The relationship between theory and practice is evaluated favourably, so long as the relationship between the two can be considered close. In linguistics, it is typical that that a variety of actors are responsible for the practical implementation of language theory: scientists, teachers, journalists, and writers, who do not necessarily actin unison.

This depends on the unity or conflict within the theoretical foundation as well as the role of its creators in this process. Common language users develop different levels of knowledge and awareness as a result of the influence on language culture.

These levels can serve as a basis on which this process can be studied. The article describes language discourse after 1945 based on the comparison of theoretical academic journals and on the other practically oriented journals aimed at teachers.

The work demonstrates the gentle speed and the extent to which theory of standard language put forward by the Prague linguistic school superseded the inertia and tradition of the former purist approach.
