Associations between peritoneal glucose exposure, glucose degradation product exposure, and peritoneal membrane transport characteristics in peritoneal dialysis patients: secondary analysis of the balANZ trial

Abstract

Implementation of biocompatible peritoneal dialysis solutions retards the changes of peritoneal transport characteristics compared with conventional peritoneal dialysis solutions. The author conclude that glucose degradation products per se are probably more detrimental to the peritoneal membrane physiology than glucose per se despite its high concentration and subsequent osmolality.
