Brevis est usus: A Note on a French Sixteenth-Century Painting

Abstrakt

In the National Gallery Prague there is a mid-sixteenth-century French painting representing Venus and Adonis, which so far escaped scholarly attention. This brief note analyzes its iconography, especially the symbolic meaning of the parrot and the goldfinch.
