Experience of Word - about the problems of authority and normative dimension od school education

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2018

Abstract

The author of the article tries to justify the reasons why we should consider one of the basic functions of school, i.e. "socialisation by words", to be a kind of normalisation. However ambiguous the normalisation is in its essence, socialisation by words enriches children in two substantial ways: it develops 1. complex thinking, and 2. the ability of a child to accept and submit to authority.

The authority can take a few forms, the authority of a teacher may be the least important of them. The text emphasizes educational significance of impersonal authority with which we absorb the order of language and logic of knowledge.

However, the most important authority is that which can be presented neither by the teacher himself nor by any particular knowledge - the authority of idea.
