An Honorable Past, A Dynamic Present: Auxiliary Historical Sciences and Archive Studies Department in the New Millennium

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2018

Abstract

n the last twenty-five years the curriculum of the Auxiliary Historical Sciences and Archive Studies department at the Faculty of Arts in Prague underwent some turbulent changes. Some of these were influenced by external conditions, some came from internal needs of the department itself and also of the fields of study and their use in practice.

While the auxiliary historical sciences as a whole and as individual sciences undergo relatively stable development, the archiving and record management appear to be extraordinarily accelerating and progressive. Last but not least, new requirements of the applicants and freshman students represent an important momentum.

The department tries to react to all of these facts by introducing new subjects and also by introducing a new field of study in the last two academic years. These are undoubtedly important changes.

In order to rise up to them with honor the department is bound by the tradition of the Prague archive studies on the one side, and by the current employees aiming to succeed on the other.
