Abstract
The "Key to Modern Paleography" handbook is a practical tool for mastering the reading of early modern and modern paleographic texts (from the early 16th to early 20th centuries). It focuses on two basic types of writing - Czech and German Neo-Gothic writing, especially their italic forms, which developed side by side and influenced each other until the adoption of the General School Code in 1774.
Since one of the main problems of active learning Reading texts from the period under review is a distinctive individualization of the letters given by the development of education and knowledge of writing, followed by a wide typological range of documents. The main aim is to show some of the most frequently occurring shapes of the Czech and German neo-Gothic italic letters and to illustrate the variability of graphs given by individual writer.
In addition to these graphs, 20 Czech and 20 German language texts, including paleographic transcriptions and accompanying commentary, are also included in the handbook, as well as examples of textbooks used in the period in question, and an overview of the most commonly used abbreviations.
