Abstract

The interparadigmatic levelling within the 4th verb class is detectable since the 17th century at least. The lecture focuses on the 3rd plural form of the present tense, thus, the competition between the "long" forms (-ejí) and "short" forms (-í).

We give a brief account of how the Czech bohemistice reflected upon this long-time process, which finally resulted into the short form being codified along with the -ejí form in 1993. We also present the results our own inquiry into this topic and discuss the question whether the codification of -í form was a right decision or not.
