Abstract

The publication is intended to introduce two valuable mediaeval documents (newly-acquired in 2018) and also other historical and art-historical relics tied to the beginnings of the university in Prague to the broad public. The first chapter by I.

Hlaváček deals with the role of the papal letter of 1347 and the notary instrument of notary public of the same year for both better understanding of the admnistrative processes of foundation and early years of Prague university on one hand, and their importance as witnesses to portion of our university's lost history on the other hand. This chapter includes also critical edition of the both documents and their Czech version.

The second chapter by B. Zilynská puts the both documents into a broader context of early institutional history of Prague university.

The third chapter by J. Royt presents other historical jewels and symbols of the Charles University, namely the seal and the scepters.

The last chapter by P. Svobodný describes in short the expert care of the documents in the Archive of Charles University and planned restoration and conservation works.
