Evaluation of Prevention From the Point of View of Students of High Schools in Ústecký Region: Comparison of Prevention in Addictology and other Types of Risk Behavior

Abstract

Background: There is the need for effective preventive interventions focused on alcohol, tobacco and other addictive substances of adolescents who are high school students. Aim: The aim of the article is to compare the differences in the evaluation of preventive activities with addictological topics and preventive activities with topics related to other types of risk behaviors of students of high schools in the Ústecký Region.

Methods: Altogether 1047 valid questionnaires from 17 schools were included in the analysis. Results and Discussion: Exactly 48% of students took part in preventive activities in the past school year, 28% of students did not participate in such activities, and 24% of students do not remember it.

Most programs of bullying prevention and use of other addictive substances appeared. Given the prevalence of tobacco smoking and behavioral addictions that were found in the survey, students were, in their own words, involved in relatively few prevention programs.

As the most interesting of the programs, the students evaluate the prevention of sexually hazardous behavior. According to the students, one of the most frequent forms of the program was one discussion.

Most of the events was attended by students in lower grades, the prevalence of problem phenomena is nevertheless increasing in higher grades. The informations provided are understandable to the students but are not new to them.

Forms of prevention are not evaluated positively. Conclusion: We hope to initiate discussion about the importance of feedback from high school students related to prevention activities.
