Abstract
The aim of the present paper is to examine the Fifth Dynasty sun temples and their relationship with contemporary pyramids from both an ideological-religious and artistic perspective. Special attention is paid to the Sed-festival depiction of Niuserra's sun temple which, in the author's opinion, is extremely useful for fully grasping the value and significance of Niuserra's sun temple and, more in general, of sun temples in the evolution of Old Kingdom royal ideology.
