Abstract

The text describes the theoretical and film-critical reflection of one of the leading Czechoslovak (and now mainly Slovak) film critics, Pavel Branko. Based on his texts within his whole life, the study analyzes his creative attitude towards film as an art, reconstructs his idea of periodization of the development of Slovak documentary film, and in the end it analyzes his theoretical texts, especially The Microdramaturgy of Documentarism (1991).

It is one of the basic theoretical foundations of the Czechoslovak documentary.
