On the Issue of Linguistic an Stylistic Appropriateness of Contemporary Journalismus

Abstract

We understand the concept of "appropriateness" in the title of the treatise both as an assessment and as a potential pragmalinguistic notion. We thus connect it with the pragmalinguistic domain of politeness/impoliteness.

We suppose that assessing of politeness and appropriateness includes assessment of the choice of linguistic means with respect to the communicative situation as a whole, i.e. to context, to the addressee and to the communicative intention of the speaker. We analyse particular instances taken from the news broadcasted in the Czech media.
