Abstract

This study revealed relationship between self-assessment instruments and strategies used in the literature and certain language learning skills. Certain strategies can be more influential for some of the language learning skills.

Therefore, identifying the areas of weakness for foreign learners and their learning style could lead us in planning to implement more suitable self-assessment strategies to improve their learning. The explicit strategies-based instructions for developing students' language learning skills, particularly for the slow language learners is essential.

The accurate use of identified strategies (meta-cognitive, affective, and social) which employed by relevant instruments to control the language learning process and the learning environment can be very essential for self-directed language learning. Self-assessment instruments can be regarded as influential in determining the learners' learning process specifically in English language context.
