The methodology for the assessment of alternative reclamations is based on the knowledge of the natural patterns of the succession evolution on the coal-mining dumps and on the areas after the completion of sand and gravel mining operations. It provides guidance on the use of legal and administrative procedures for the conservation of naturally valuable habitats, and also takes into account the recreational potential of reclaimed areas.
The new is the link between the post-mining regularities of the succession process with the administrative procedures and the decision-making phases of the nature conservation authorities. It is an integrated basis for use by both public authorities and mining organizations.
