The volume introduces an overview of the Jesus Research (pages 1-29, in which the author argues for presentation of its two areas (Jesus of history and Christology) in one volume as two methodologically different but inseparable parts of Jesus Research. Christology motivates the Jesus Research and Jesus of history is the feedback of faith.

This applies also for the secular Jesus Research, since the fact that Jesus is the key person for Christians, motivates also the secular research. A special attention is devoted to the "Third Quest".

The individual articles (published between 1997 and 2014) discuss these problems in detail: Jesus' emancipation from John the Baptist, the specific features of the language of the ancient Jesus traditions, the pragmatic moral of the Sermon on the Mount, Words of Jesus in Paul or the reconstruction of the Passion Story. As to the second part, the author offers a stratification of the layers that can be reconstructed in the texts (mostly the letters of Paul and the canonical Gospels) dealing with Jesus' resurrection: The formulae of the gospel (euangelion)/ hope for other people derived from the apocalyptic context/ stories about the empty tomb/ formulations combining the resurrection-christology with other expressions of Easter.

From the eight articles of the second part, the closing essay about Jesus as a parable of God represents a bridge between exegese and systematic theology (Jesus als Gleichnis Gottes).
