Abstract
Psilocybin, a classical agent of serotonergic psychedelics, is well-suited for both basic and clinical research because of its favorable chemical, pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic properties. An exhaustive review focusing on its therapeutic potential was published four years ago (Tylš, 2015) in Psychiatrie.
Since then, by the end of 2018, the Pubmed database has 187 newly registered psilocybin publications. This number reflects the so-called "psychedelic renaissance", resulting from several pioneer studies in the 1990s and gradually gaining strength.
This text complements the abovementioned review with the latest findings on psilocybin in terms of preclinical studies, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, phenomenology of intoxication, brain imaging methods, adverse effects and theories of its effect.
