Abstract

This article is concerned with the conception of the aesthetic subversion in the thoughts of contemporary German philosopher Christoph Menke. According to Menke the aesthetic experience of art disrupts the unity of subject and his rational abilities; in this disruption lays the subversive effect of the aesthetic experience.

First part of the text introduces Menke's notion of the rational abilities of subject, against which the aesthetic experience stands. Second and third part describes, how the aesthetic experience attains its subversive effect and what does it mean to subject.

The last part follows the question of the good and of freedom in relation to the subversive aesthetic experience of art.
