Abstract
Endometriosis is a chronic and often progressive disease characterized by the presence of endometrial glands and stroma outside the uterus. Its incidence in women of reproductive age is approximately 10%.
The symptoms of the disease (chronic pelvic pain, infertility, dyspareunia) often have a negative impact on physical, psycho-emotional and social wellbeing. More than a half of women with endometriosis suffer from deep dyspareunia.
Dyspareunia in women with endometriosis can be multifactorial, so other diagnoses can participate in the onset of dyspareunia. For these reasons, women with endometriosis and dyspareunia should undergo a detailed clinical assessment in order to propose appropriate management.
