František Duchač-Vyskočil and Mikoláš Aleš - the sculptor legionar and the ainter of the folk

Abstract

The paper is dedicated to two Czech artists, namely Mikoláš Aleš and František Duchači-Vyskočil, specifically the work of art, in which the fates of both were interconnected. It is a monument to Mikoláš Aleš in Hořice, Czech Republic, written by sculptor F.

Duchač-Vyskočil. While the person and work of M.

Alš is elaborated in detail in the literature, F. Duchač-Vyskočil is not very well-known artist today.

However, his work in the Czechoslovak legions and his work is worth attention. Vyskočil's monuments with legionary themes decorate places not only in the Czech Republic, but also in France.

His portraits created during the First World War are also of great quality. The work of F.

Duchač-Vyskočil is connected with the East Bohemian Hořice, where the sculptor was born, then graduated there he also opened a sculpture studio there. The idea of a monument to M.

Aleš for Smetanovy sady in Hořice appeared in 1907. Two years later, F.

Duchač-Vyskočil began to work on its realization, which was interrupted first by the death of a portrait and then by the outbreak of World War I. The monument would eventually be completed and unveiled in 1922.

In the paper, the monument to Alš is set in the context of Vyskočil's memorial work and in the context of the other monuments of M. Aleš.
