"Let's go for a walk round the room!" Zimmerreise as a popular bourgeois pastime

Abstract

The study deals with a phenomenon of Zimmerreise, presented on the example of the wall paintings in the Prague house of the miller Václav Michalovic. Zimmerreise was a popular pastime in 19th century, related often to the theatre, music and the interests of the house-owner.

This study is about the interpretation of the wall painting, painted 1847 by Josef Navrátil and other social and political aspects of this era.
