Immune cell crosstalk in development and prevention of type 1 diabetes

Publication at Second Faculty of Medicine |
2019

Abstract

The development of type 1 diabetes involves a complex cooperation between beta-cells of the pancreatic islets and cells of both the innate and adaptive immune systems. This review identifies the role of individual cell populations, their crosstalk and influence on the acceleration or prevention of the disease.

Detailed understanding of the mechanisms occurring during the onset and development of type 1 diabetes may help to design new therapeutic approaches.
