T. G. Masaryk's Czech or Social Question?

Abstract

With the advancing industrial revolution, at the end of the century the social question became one of the most fundamental issues of the time. Seemingly independent of it, after the elections of 1891, in the context of political debates, the term Czech question often appears.

Masaryk commented on both topics very often. The Czech question for him was a prime problem of secularization, moral decline, social inequality and cultivation of one's own culture.

Through his pretty unique concept of social question, it is easy to find between the two concepts a great deal of consensus, thanks to which the Czech question appears to be only one of the branches of the social question.
