Defending the planet from asteroids and comets is not only a topic for science fiction movies but a source of realistic worry for humanity. Given its global threat, how is the world dealing with planetary defense? What are its scientific, technological and political or decision-making challenges? These are some of the main questions addressed in the upcoming book "Planetary Defense: Global Collaboration for Defending Earth from Asteroids and Comets", edited by Nikola Schmidt.
Together with Petr Bohacek, Nikola is leading a multi-disciplinary research project which will deliver a space resources and planetary defense policy recommendation to the Czech Transport Ministry. Both authors also focus and write on space governance, colonization and questions regarding humanity's future in space.
