Writing the Otherness

Abstract

The starting point of the dialogue between Levinas and Blanchot is the theme of the experience of anonymous being ("il y a"). It is for this reason that my presentation will begin with a comparison of their descriptions of such experience.

Because, for both philosophers, the experience of "il y a" is a sign of the impossibility of death, the following part will be devoted to an analysis of the concept of death in their philosophy. The differences between Blanchot and Levinas will ultimately stand out in the final discussion of a "Writing the Otherness".

Nevertheless, I shall maintain that these differences are already foreshadowed in their descriptions of "il y a".
