Abstract

During pilot study of research tool focused on measuring environmental literacy of ISCED 2 pupils, influence of selected variables on the results was examined. Target group consist of pupils of 6th to 9th grade of lower secondary school.

Altogether 467 respondents from different secondary schools and one high school (multi-year gymnasium) get involved in the study. Reliability of all the tool's scales reached acceptable values 0,7-0,8.

Spearmen correlations showed significant relationship mainly between scales of attitudes, sensitivity and behaviour. In the case of gender, was found a significant effect on attitudes, sensitivity and behaviour.

Girls reached higher scores in these scales than boys. Year of study have a significant influence in all environmental literacy scales - negative correlation was found in attitudes, sensitivity and behaviour scales, while knowledge scale shows positive correlation with the year of study.

Leisure activities, mainly time spent in nature, were also significantly correlated with attitudes, sensitivity and behaviour scales. Leisure activities and year of study can be therefore considered to be main determinants of environmental literacy.
