The Teaching of Sight-reading for Children who Learn to Play the Piano

Abstract

The contribution deals with the issues of sight-reading by the piano. First, the age of the child is taken into consideration, then the right moment and requirements are discussed, on which it is best to start to teach sight-reading in the piano lessons for children.

Further, the methods of sight-reading are named and described. The contribution is closed with an overview of Czech materials dedicated to sight-reading, that are commonly used in the piano education in the Czech Republic.
