Abstract

The chapter is focused on the social context of the work of teaching assistants. The text pays particular attention to attitudes to the teaching profession by the general public and other teaching staff.

Based on the evaluation of inteviews with the teaching assistants, the research shows significant shortcomings in the social prestige of the profession - many people do not yet know the profession of teaching assistant, and a significant part of the society accepts pedagogical assistants with reservations. Both the general public and the teaching staff are likely to be blamed for the lack of information about the position of the teaching assistant and about the correct setting of his work.

The resulting recommendations therefore aim to raise awareness of the activities of teaching assistants by publicizing the importance of teaching assistants and examples of good practice in the profession.
