The lecture focuses on the possibilities of interpretation of the Czechoslovak Spartakiad in the context of the theory of modern mythologies and aesthetics of performativity. It introduce changes of shape and of public image of the Spartakiads between the 1950s and the late 1980s.
Based on analysis of selected signs and cultural meanings we follow the role of the Spartakiads and Spartakiad-related themes in developping mythology of changing regime and its special festivity. As well, the lecture follow the role of this event in process of the dictatorship's self-legitimization and in promoting specific models of social coexistence.
