Abstract

Psychedelics are substances that cause transient intense changes in consciousness at the level of perception, thinking, experiencing and behavior. In Western society, their therapeutic potential was widely used and explored in the 1960s.

In clinical practice, it has proved to be the most effective in combination with psychotherapy, at the time mainly dominating psychoanalysis. Today, research into these substances is renewed and everything suggests that they will be able to be used in therapy in the near future.

Although historically psychedelics has been mainly associated with psychoanalysis, it can be assumed that the Gestalt approach is a suitable tool for working with the altered states of consciousness induced by psychedelics. The paper will present therapeutically effective factors of psychedelic-induced conditions, how they could serve in Gestalt therapy, which can enrich it and also open discussion about which concepts might be an obstacle in this work.
