Abstract

The study of children's injuries connected with water especially concentrated on water slides injuries was carried out under the auspices of National Coordinating Centre for the Prevention of Injuries, Violence and Child Safety - University Hospital in Motol. This type of injuries is not registered centrally in the Czech Republic.

The target audience were children aged 0-19 injured in water parks in the monitored period (1. 1. 2008 - 31. 12. 2010). It concerned together 1 693 children, 79% of them were boys.

An inappropriate position while sliding down (34%), a fall (25%), the sliding down itself (10%) or a crash (9%) were the most frequent causes of their injuries. The children sustained cut wounds and lacerations repeatedly, but also a range of more serious injuries appeared - luxation of the shoulder joint, rib fractures, concussions.

The results of the study obviously show that implementation of a central register of injuries connected with water appears to be more than required.
