Slow code is a phenomenon to which little attention is paid in Czech literature. Occasionally we find a mention in some bachelor or diploma thesis, almost always with reference to the dissertation of oncologist and palliative care specialist Ondřej Sláma (2009), where resuscitation is defined as unduly performed resuscitation, with reference to the obvious failure of such resuscitation, referred as Hollywood resuscitation.
According to Sláma the main reason for pretending to resuscitate is a family and the goal is to make the family feel like it was done everything for saving their loved ones. Sláma admits that this approach can be effective in prevention of possible conflicts, but also points out that it disturbs moral and clinical integrity of healthcare professionals and is "an expression of the inability of healthcare professionals to communicate effectively about the clinical and ethical dilemmas ".
