For die we must: Foreshadowing Death and Afterlife in Various Saga Genres

Abstract

The subject of the paper was foreshadowing of death and afterlife to be found in family, legendary, kings' and bishops' sagas. While foreshadowing in family and legendary sagas is mostly based on the original native tradition and the Old Norse belief in fate, foreshadowing in kings' and bishops' sagas shows Christian influences and ideological subtext.
