Principles of Montessori Approach in the Care of Persons with Dementia

Abstract

Increasing number of persons living with dementiabrings to practice a number of psychosocial interventions. Among those approaches belongs the Montessori method, originally designed for education of children, which Dr.

Cameron Camp applied to support the different areas of life of people with dementia. This method is based on providing meaningful activities that focus on the individual's interests and the abilities of people with dementia.

The article describes the structure and use of the Montessori method in care of people with dementia and its evaluation.
