Solitude, Loneliness and the Desire to Give

Publication at Faculty of Humanities |

Abstract

The study focuses on one of the key motifs in Nietzsche's Thus spoke Zarathustra - the motif of solitude. It follows Zarathustra's evolution towards solitude with a special regard to Zarathustra's overcoming of that which is human within himself.

Zarathustra too has certain troubles with his own loneliness. His love for people and an extraordinary desire to give are the basis of what is called loneliness.

Zarathustra gradually afirms his own fate and overcomes his humanness. This is enormously difficult, yet necessary should he be in accordance with his own teaching.
