The paper was dedicated to research of the lexemes, the mythologemes (mystified subjects of various spheres or objects used in the framework of mythological or folklore space) respectively, which denotate "soul" in Baltic languages. Based on the already researched material, it illustrated specificities of the research of the particular mythologemes (mainly taking into consideration Lith. siela and Latv. velis, Lith. vėlė), and it dealt with the tools by which it is considerable to examine those mythologemes.
The paper defined need and difficulties of diachronic examination, the fitting way for comparative method in this particular case and instruments of synchronic character that are available for the analyses of these mythologemes. As a conclusion, it is possible to say the mythologemes denotating soul in the Baltic languages require an individual methodology, or more precisely, a combination of more ways of research.
