Abstract

The paper will deal with the scientific article Historical Development of the Debate on Gender Inequalities in Wages, which is preparing as part of the dissertation project. The paper will first map the historical development of the gender pay gap.

In the Czech environment, since the 1950s, emphasis has been placed on the emancipation of women in the context of their increasing employment, when, as a result of the post-war economic situation, there was political will to use women's work in the national economy. However, ideologically proclaimed emancipation did not bring true equality; women's salaries amounted to only 63-71 % of men's salaries in the 1960s and 1980s.

Despite the fact that the emancipatory discourse was anchored in the Czech environment relatively earlier than in the Western countries, the value of Gender Pay Gap is now higher. The contribution aspired to try to answer the question how the development of institutions, such as legislation and regulations of different levels determining the level of remuneration, discourse and practice of inequal remuneration of men and women influenced the next period, including how path dependency works in this area.
