Abstract

Pain is a subjective unpleasant physical feeling of weight, pressure, heaviness, fullness, burning, cutting, twisting stabbing, tearing, pulsating cramps or intense suffering, arising from stimulation of nerve ending by illness or physical trauma. This definition is the basis for the book Abdominal pain.

Abdominal pain can be a symptom of both trivial and serious or even life-threatening conditions. The book is structured into several parts, the general section deals with anatomy, pathophysiology and propaedeutic examinations.

In the specialized sections, differential diagnosis of abdominal pain is addressed by the following specialists - internist/gastroenterologist, paediatrician, infectiologist, gynaecologist, urologist, cardiologist, angiologist, neurologist, gerontologist, oncologist, intensive care specialist and the book culminates with chapters dedicated to surgery and paediatric surgery. Pain is the most common cause for patients to seek medical help and this book offers physicians thorough information on it.
