Wound healing is a process consisting of three phases: inflammatory, proliferation and remodelling. The majority of chronic wounds in dermatology accounts for leg ulcers.

Successful healing of chronic wounds requires an optimal environment. An essential part of wound management is a proper choice of wound dressing according to the recent concept of moist environment for optimal healing.
